Sports Metric of the Week: Broncos Defense Carries Team to Championship

It looks as though Peyton Manning’s final game will be a Super Bowl victory.

The legendary quarterback’s future is in question, and many close to the star believe he will hang up the cleats following his second Super Bowl ring.

Despite Manning getting credit for leading his team to victory over the Panthers, it was actually the Broncos defense that led the way.

In fact, Manning’s offense was historically inefficient.

The Broncos gained just 11 first downs the entire game, and were an awful 1-14 on 3rd down.

The team’s 194 yards of total offense were lowest ever by a Super Bowl champion, 50 yards fewer than the previous clip of 244 yards set by the 2000 Baltimore Ravens.
