Sports Metric of the Week: Thanksgiving Day Football

Along with turkey, the Macy’s Day Parade in New York City, and spending time with family, football is a staple on Thanksgiving Day. The tradition of playing football on Turkey Day can be dated all the way back to the 1800’s.

Nowadays, the NFL schedules three games to be played each year on Thanksgiving. Four of America’s most popular teams have been a fixture in Thanksgiving games throughout the years: Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, and Green Bay Packers.

The Cowboys’ 29-18-1 (.615 win %) win-loss record is the best among the four main Thanksgiving teams. On the flip side, the Green Bay Packers have struggled on the holiday, posting a 14-20-2 record (.417 win %).
